Home > Diseases and Conditions > Hematuria >

Hematuria, or blood in urine is the presence of increasing red blood cells in urine, which is a signal of severe diseases in urinary system and it can usually be seen in patients with kidney diseases.

What is hematuria?

The volume of red blood cells in the normal urine is quite less. When seen under a microscope, there can be less than two red blood cells in the urine without centrifugation. Medically, doctors check the patients’ urine after centrifugal sedimentation through a microscope, if more than five red blood cells are seen at every high power field, it is called hematuria.

Types of hematuria

Hematuria can be divided into two types: microscopic hematuria and gross hematuria. The former stands for the urine in which red blood cells cannot be seen with naked eyes, except when examined with a microscope. However, if we find the color of the urine is red or cola-colored with naked eyes, or even blood streaks or blood clots in urine, that is called gross hematuria.

Hematuria and kidney diseases

Hematuria is the common symptoms of kidney diseases such as IgA Nephropathy, Polycystic Kidney Disease, Nephritis and so on. And this is usually because as the GFR of kidney patients is decreased, the glomerulus can not preserve the red blood cells as normal, finally, a number of them can flow into the urine.

How to treat hematuria?

Patients should go to the doctor to check the underlying causes the moment they find blood in the urine so as to treat it from the root cause. As to the patients with kidney diseases, Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy is recommended by many experts to treat the disease. This is a brand-new therapy which is based on Chinese medicine, and with the help of osmotic equipment, the active substance of Chinese medicine can take effects directly at the renal lesions.
